Be Still and Know My Heart
Two hearts, a flower and vase along with a handprint sit on my kitchen table. They serve as a daily reminder and mantra to invite God into all the places of my life. The hand print reads, "Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart," from Psalm 139. These days my heart beats with joy and sadness intermittently. Joy for the new baby our family will welcome into the world in the coming weeks, joy for the bright sun and harvest from fields all around us, and joy for our community of faith staying connected and sharing compassion for each other. The sadness echoes in the beats of losses, so many lives, so many hearts broken. Sadness in the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, sorrow in the discontent of a nation conflicted. With hands over our hearts, I invite us to seek compassion for each other, space to tend to our aches and brokenness, and time to sit and remember that God knows our joys and sorrows intimately. God invites us to hold them both in care, so that we might return our hearts to a rhythm of peace in the chaos.
May it be so, O God! Pastor Pam
